Episode 108: Aurora Straus & Girls With Drive

“You become qualified to do things by doing them.”

On this week’s episode of the Eat Green Make Green Podcast, I sit down with the amazing Aurora Straus. Aurora is one of the very few female professional race car drivers in the country and founder of the non-profit Girls With Drive.

We talk about how a young girl from New York got into race car driving, her path and the many different paths to becoming a professional, what she views as her biggest accomplishments on and off the track, why building a racing career is very similar to building a startup business, the role a fellow Boston female entrepreneur (Zoe Barry) has played in her success, why she started Girls With Drive to encourage young women to get active in male-dominated fields, the physical demands and how she trains her body for racing, how she mentally handles the risk associated with racing, why she believes women are taught from a young age to be risk averse, and much more. Monday through Wednesday Aurora is in lecture halls at Harvard and Thursday through Sunday she’s going 175 mph in a BMW M4 GT4 in places like Daytona. Aurora is truly one of the most impressive 21 year old’s I’ve ever met.
