Episode 110: Tom Fleck & Ironman Coach’s Corner 1

“People don’t know how to leave their ego out of it… The top endurance athletes in the world train by doing long slow days.”

On this week’s episode of the Eat Green Make Green Podcast, I sit down with plant powered triathlete and my new triathlon coach Tom Fleck. For those that have followed the show since its inception, Tom is a Podcast OG and joined me on Episode 16 almost three years ago. He has a beautiful life story, from a guy with countless health struggles to now a seasoned triathlete. As some of you may know, I just signed up for my first Ironman (Ironman Mont-Tremblant) in August. Needless to say, I needed some guidance! Enter Coach Tom. We thought it would be fun to chronicle my journey to my first triathlon, from total newbie to (hopefully!) Ironman.

We talk about Tom’s journey since our last chat, why I signed up for an Ironman with no background in triathlons, what my first few weeks of training looks like, heart rate training and why you train slower to eventually go faster, what my biggest challenges will be, the importance of dropping your ego during training, how to find the time for training, and all kinds of newbie triathlete info. We’ll do a check-in episode every month or two leading up to my Ironman.
